Welcome to the 1st Station : Greeting in Crow The chickadee lives in the same area of the United States that the Crow Indian people live. The chickadee has a short, plump body, a solid black cap and bib, white cheeks, sparkling eyes and a cone shaped bill. He has a large vocabulary. You may hear him calling chick-a-dee, chick-a-dee-dee-dee. The chickadee is quite an acrobat. You may see him hanging upside down from a twig to reach berries or nuts or insects. He likes to live near trees and thickets and may build his nest in a hole that he discovers in a tree. The chickadee is full of energy. When he isn't flying, he hops, rarely ever walking on the ground. The chickadee has many friends. You may find him in a flock of other birds, such as nuthatches, woodpeckers, kinglets and warblers. When a pair of chickadees have chicks, the female builds the nest and tends the eggs. The male brings food to the female and to the chicks when they hatch. The chickadee is a great helper to us because he eats lots of insects that destroy crops. From: Paul, Jack and Linda, Welcome to the Chickadee Home Pages .
