Who is Chief Plenty Coups?

Born more than 150 years ago, Plenty Coups was a Crow Indian chief. He did many great things for his people which is why he was called Plenty Coups, or many accomplishments. Many famous white leaders respected him. Plenty Coups was especially instrumental in helping the Crow Indian people adapt to life on the reservations. He strongly believed in preserving the Crow Indian traditions and was a living example that these traditions and the white man's lifestyle could coexist.
